About the UTI Profile
The UTI profile combines urine routine and microscopy with urine culture and sensitivity. It shows pus cells and bacteria in urine, finds the germ causing a urinary tract infection and tells which antibiotics will work.
Symptoms and situations where this test helps
- Burning or pain while passing urine
- Frequent urge to pass urine, or lower abdominal pain
- Foul-smelling or cloudy urine, blood in urine
- Fever with urinary symptoms, or repeated UTIs
Understanding your results
Pus cells and bacteria in the routine test suggest infection. The culture confirms the germ and shows which antibiotics work, which is important because resistance is common. A mixed growth may mean the sample was contaminated.
What your doctor may advise next
Your doctor may start antibiotics and adjust them after the culture result, and look for causes if UTIs repeat.
