About the Fever Profile (Basic)
The basic fever profile covers first-line tests for fever without a clear cause: blood count, CRP, malaria antigen, Widal, dengue NS1 and urine examination. It is commonly advised in Delhi during the monsoon, when dengue, malaria and typhoid are frequent.
Symptoms and situations where this test helps
- Fever lasting more than two or three days
- Fever with chills, body ache, headache or rash
- Fever with low platelets or vomiting, as advised
- Fever after mosquito exposure or travel
Understanding your results
A low platelet count with a positive NS1 suggests dengue. A positive malaria antigen or smear points to malaria. A rising CRP and high white cell count suggest bacterial infection. Widal results need careful interpretation. Your doctor decides the next step.
What your doctor may advise next
Your doctor may add specific tests such as typhoid culture, dengue antibodies or a chest X-ray, and advise rest, fluids and medicines.
