Digital X-ray at our lab, and at your site on request

X-rays use a small, controlled dose of radiation to create images of bones and some soft tissues. Our digital radiography (DR) system captures the image electronically, so the picture is ready within minutes and can be adjusted for clarity without repeating the exposure. This helps keep radiation dose low.

We perform chest X-ray (PA view), spine, knee, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, shoulder, hip and pelvis, skull, paranasal sinuses and abdomen (KUB) among others. A chest X-ray is the most common request for pre-employment medicals, TB screening and routine check-ups.

We also have a portable digital radiography (DR) system. For patients who cannot travel, and for company camps, portable X-ray can be arranged at your home or site on request, subject to feasibility and radiation safety norms.

How an X-ray is done

• You change into a gown or remove clothing and metal items from the area being imaged.
• The technician positions you in front of or on the X-ray plate. You will be asked to stand or lie still.
• For a chest X-ray you take a deep breath in and hold it for a moment.
• The exposure lasts a fraction of a second. The whole visit usually takes about ten minutes, plus time for the report.

Before your X-ray

• Bring the doctor’s prescription or request if you have one.
• Remove chains, hooks, belts, coins and jewellery near the area.
• Tell the technician if you are or might be pregnant. X-rays are usually avoided in pregnancy unless the doctor considers them essential.
• Carry earlier X-rays for comparison. This helps the doctor see changes.

Radiation safety

The radiation dose from a single plain X-ray is small and comparable to a few days of natural background radiation, with chest X-ray being among the lowest. Our staff follow radiation safety guidelines, use shielding where suitable, and take only the views that are required. Your doctor weighs the benefit of the test against the very small risk.

The X-Rays (also known as The X-Ray Fiend) is an 1897 British short silent comedy film, directed by George Albert Smith, featuring a courting couple exposed to X-rays. The trick film, according to Michael Brooke of BFI Screenonline, “contains one of the first British examples of special effects created by means of jump cuts” Smith employs the jump-cut twice; first to transform his courting couple via “X rays,” dramatized by means of the actors donning black bodysuits decorated with skeletons and with the woman holding only the metal support work of her umbrella, 

and then to return them and the umbrella to normal. The couple in question were played by Smith’s wife Laura Bayley and Tom Green (a Brighton comedian).

How long does it take to get an X-ray report?

The image is ready quickly. Report timing depends on the study and is confirmed at the time of booking.

Can children have an X-ray?

Yes, when the doctor advises it. Children are positioned with care and only the required views are taken.

Do you also do MRI, CT and ultrasound?

Digital X-ray is done in our own lab, and portable X-ray can be arranged at home or on-site on request. MRI, CT, echo and Doppler are arranged at partner imaging centres with free pick & drop and a flat 50% off. Ask us on WhatsApp for slots.

Is a chest X-ray needed for pre-employment?

Many employers include it in their medical panel, along with blood tests, ECG, lung function and audiometry. We follow your employer’s checklist.
