What an occupational health checkup is

An occupational health checkup is a medical examination designed around the work a person does and the hazards they meet at work. It helps employers find health problems early, place people in suitable roles, protect workers exposed to noise, dust, fumes or chemicals, and keep a health record over the years.

HumanCare Pathlabs in Okhla, New Delhi runs occupational health panels for manufacturing, healthcare, IT and service teams. Tests are done at our NABL accredited laboratory (certificate MC-10015, for tests in our accredited scope) or at your site through on-site collection and camps.

Types of occupational medical examination

• Pre-placement (pre-employment): before a person starts, to record a baseline and check suitability for the role
• Periodic medical examination: at regular intervals, often yearly, for workers exposed to hazards or for all staff
• Return-to-work: after a long illness or injury
• Exit medical: when a person leaves, to record health status

Your policy, your safety officer or your occupational health physician decides which applies and how often.

Tests chosen by hazard and role

• Noise exposure: audiometry (hearing test)
• Dust, fumes or smoke: pulmonary function test (spirometry) and chest X-ray
• Chemicals and solvents: blood count, liver function and kidney function tests, as advised
• Heavy physical work, driving or work at heights: ECG, blood pressure, blood sugar and lipid profile
• Desk-based and shift work: blood sugar, lipid profile, thyroid, vitamin D and B12, ECG
• Healthcare and food-handling roles: infection screening and vaccination checks as per your policy

Reports, records and who decides fitness

We provide the test results as digital reports for the HR or safety contact you nominate, and results are kept confidential. The fitness decision and any certificate remain with the employer’s occupational health physician or the authority required by law. Requirements under factory and labour rules differ by state and industry, so please confirm them with your safety officer or consultant.

How we run it for your site

• Share headcount, locations, hazards and preferred dates.
• We send a quotation and a schedule that fits your shifts.
• On the day, our trained team collects samples at your site, and workers visit our lab or a set-up for ECG, lung function and audiometry as agreed. Portable digital X-ray can be arranged subject to feasibility and radiation safety norms.
• Reports go to your nominated contact, and we keep the format consistent year after year so that trends are easy to follow.
