About the Arthritis Profile
The arthritis profile includes rheumatoid factor, anti-CCP, CRP, ASO and uric acid. These tests help separate rheumatoid arthritis, gout and infection-related joint pain, so that treatment starts early and protects the joints.
Symptoms and situations where this test helps
- Pain, stiffness and swelling in small joints, worst in the morning
- Red, hot, painful big toe or other joint (possible gout)
- Joint pain after a sore throat, especially in children
- Family history of rheumatoid arthritis
Understanding your results
Positive RF and anti-CCP, especially anti-CCP, support rheumatoid arthritis. High uric acid is linked with gout, but can be present without symptoms. A raised CRP shows inflammation. A rheumatologist makes the diagnosis using symptoms, examination and tests.
What your doctor may advise next
Your doctor may advise joint X-rays or ultrasound, and early treatment to prevent joint damage.
