EEG at home

Brain-wave recording with scalp electrodes, at your home.

  • Home visit available
  • Usually 30 to 60 minutes

₹3,000 ₹2,000

About this test

An EEG records the electrical activity of the brain through small sensors on the scalp. It is commonly advised for seizures, episodes of blackout or unexplained changes in behaviour.

The test is painless. Home EEG is especially helpful for children, elderly patients and people who cannot travel easily.

Who it is for

  • Seizures or suspected epilepsy
  • Blackouts or unexplained spells
  • Follow-up of a known neurological condition

How to prepare

  • Wash your hair the night before; no oil, gel or spray
  • Avoid caffeine on the test day unless your doctor says otherwise
  • Follow any sleep instruction your doctor has given (some EEGs need reduced sleep)
  • Carry previous reports and the medicine list

What an EEG shows

An electroencephalogram (EEG) records the natural electrical activity of the brain. Small sensors on the scalp pick up the signals, which are drawn as wave patterns. The pattern changes when you are awake, drowsy or asleep, and certain abnormal patterns can point to seizure activity or other brain conditions.

EEG is mainly used to evaluate seizures and epilepsy, unexplained blackouts, episodes of confusion or altered behaviour, and to monitor a known neurological condition. It is painless and carries no radiation.

How the test is done

  • About twenty small electrodes are attached to the scalp with paste or gel after the hair is parted and the skin cleaned.
  • You lie or sit comfortably with the eyes closed for most of the recording.
  • You may be asked to open and close your eyes, breathe deeply for a few minutes, and look at a flickering light. These activities can bring out patterns that are not visible at rest.
  • Recording usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. The paste is washed out of the hair after the test.

Getting ready for an EEG

  • Wash and dry your hair the night before. Do not use oil, gel, spray or conditioner.
  • Continue regular medicines unless your doctor says otherwise, and bring the list of medicines.
  • Some doctors ask for reduced sleep before the test. Follow exactly what your doctor tells you.
  • Avoid caffeine on the day if your doctor has advised so. Eat normally so you do not feel faint.

What a normal EEG does and does not mean

A normal EEG does not completely exclude epilepsy, because abnormal activity may not occur during the short recording. In the same way, some people without seizures may show minor variations. The result must always be read together with your symptoms and examination by a neurologist.

EEG at home

Home EEG is especially helpful for children, elderly patients, people with frequent seizures and those who find travel stressful. Our technician brings the equipment to your home in Delhi and Noida and sets up in a quiet room. Please make sure the room is calm and the patient is comfortable and cooperative.

EEG (electroencephalogram)

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that detects electrical activity in your brain using small, metal discs (electrodes) attached to your scalp. Your brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even when you’re asleep. This activity shows up as wavy lines on an EEG recording.

An EEG is one of the main diagnostic tests for epilepsy. An EEG can also play a role in diagnosing other brain disorders

Why it’s done
An EEG can determine changes in brain activity that might be useful in diagnosing brain disorders, especially epilepsy or another seizure disorder. An EEG might also be helpful for diagnosing or treating the following disorders:

  1. Brain tumor
  2. Brain damage from head injury
  3. Brain dysfunction that can have a variety of causes (encephalopathy)
  4. Inflammation of the brain (encephalitis)
  5. Stroke
  6. Sleep disorders

An EEG might also be used to confirm brain death in someone in a persistent coma. A continuous EEG is used to help find the right level of anesthesia for someone in a medically induced coma.

Frequently asked questions

Do you really come to my home for this test?

Yes. Our trained technician visits with portable equipment. Share your address on WhatsApp and we confirm the visit slot with you.

Do I need a doctor's prescription?

A prescription helps us run the right test, but you can also book on your own for a routine check. Send a photo of the prescription on WhatsApp if you have one.

Is an EEG safe for children?

Yes. It is painless and does not use radiation. Children may need a parent beside them. Tell us in advance if the child is anxious, so that we can plan the visit.

Will the electrodes give me a shock?

No. The electrodes only listen to the brain’s signals. Nothing is sent into the head.

Do I need to stop seizure medicines before an EEG?

Never stop or change seizure medicines on your own. Only your neurologist can advise whether any change is needed before the test.

How long does it take to get the EEG report?

Reporting time depends on the type of recording and is confirmed when you book. Your neurologist interprets the findings along with your symptoms.

Can the test be done at home and what does it cost?

Yes, our technician can do this test at your home in Delhi and Noida. The current rate is shown on this page. Any visit charge is confirmed on WhatsApp or phone before the technician is sent, so there are no surprises.

Medical information here is for general awareness. Your doctor decides which tests you need.
